The idea

What Coursed is

Coursed is a live, per-table view of your dining room. It reads your POS order data and scores every table in real time against a six-step service ladder built from your own hospitality standard — first round, apps, second round, entrées, third round, dessert.

The point isn't to push checks. It's to make your standard visible while there's still time to act: you can see the table that's slipping and fix it at the table, not at closeout. Good hospitality is good business — the check follows.

Prep

Before you begin

Have these ready and setup goes quickly:

Step one

1Sign up & pick a plan

Coursed starts with a 30-day pilot, not a checkout — you run the full product on your own service data before you ever pay. Apply at getcoursed.com and the Coursed team reaches out to get you set up. No card required to begin.

Once you’re set up, your restaurant gets its own board address — yourname.getcoursed.com. At the end of the 30 days you decide whether to subscribe; see Pricing, billing & help for what it costs.

Multiple locations? Don't sign each one up separately — see Multiple locations so they roll up under one account with a single login.

Step two

2Connect your POS

This is the step the Coursed team does with you, on your onboarding call. We connect Coursed to your POS and authorize it to read your order data — nothing else. Coursed only ever reads orders; it can't change tickets, prices, or anything in your POS.

Once connected, your board starts building automatically. Data flows in on a live cycle throughout service, so you don't touch anything to keep it current.

What we need from you: a few minutes with your POS admin to authorize the connection. We'll walk you through exactly where to click.

Step three

3Put the board on the floor

Open yourname.getcoursed.com on the screen you picked, and log in with the board password we set up together. That's it — the board is live.

Tip: the login is remembered on that screen, so the kiosk stays signed in between shifts.

Wall display

Kiosk mode — full-screen & always-on

For a tablet mounted on the wall or the pass, lock it to the board so it runs edge-to-edge, never sleeps, and can't be swiped away from during service. Works on any recent iPad or Android tablet.

First, sign the tablet in once. The cleanest way is a floor kiosk link: from a manager login, open Scoring → Floor access → Generate kiosk link, then open that link on the tablet. It signs the screen in as a view-only floor board — no password to leave on the wall, and it can't reach your settings. (A normal board login works too; it's just remembered on that screen.) Set the density to Mini or Compact for a wall.

On an iPad

Permanent install? For a wall tablet that runs 24/7, a dedicated kiosk-browser app like Kiosk Pro adds auto-reload after a Wi-Fi blip and hides every browser control — worth it for a fixed screen.

On an Android tablet

Permanent install? For an always-on wall display, the free Fully Kiosk Browser app is the most reliable — set your board as its start URL and turn on full-screen, keep-screen-on, auto-reload, and start-on-boot.
Either device: keep it on power, set the brightness for the room, make sure it stays on stable Wi-Fi, and pause automatic OS updates that could reboot the tablet mid-service.

Step four

4Set your service standard

Your board comes with sensible defaults, but the whole value is that it reflects your standard. On the settings page you can tune the six rungs of the ladder — how many drinks, when apps should land, entrée timing, dessert — per shift, since brunch and a Friday dinner aren't the same.

Every Coursed subscription includes a fully customizable ladder and drink weighting — the built-in defaults are just a starting point.

Step five

5Categorize your menu

Coursed needs to know which items are drinks, apps, entrées, and desserts so it scores each rung correctly. Most items sort themselves automatically — you just review and fix the handful that don't.

Item categorization and drink weighting — fine-tuning how much individual drinks count toward a rung — are both part of every Coursed subscription.

Step six

6Pace alerts included

Pace watches for tables falling behind — past a course deadline (plus a buffer you set) or sitting longer than your max table time — and flags them red on the board so a manager can step in before the guest notices. It’s built into Coursed, not a separate add-on — it’s on and ready to tune to your service.

If a flag isn't warranted — a table that's lingering happily over coffee — a manager can clear the trouble flag right from the table, and reinstate it later if things change.

Day to day

Reading the board

Here's what your team sees during service. It's meant to be glanceable — no training required beyond this.

★★★
Stars

Each table earns up to six stars as it moves up the service ladder. A table lit gold has hit every rung — your standard, met.

Perfect table

A full-ladder table gets the gold treatment — worth calling out to the team.

Trouble flag (Pace)

A red flag means a table is behind on a course or over its time. Tap it for the fire timeline showing where it slipped. Clear it if it's a false alarm.

Low-guest flag

A gold ⚠ means more entrées than the guest count suggests — usually the cover count was under-entered, which makes the score too easy. Fix the count, or clear the flag if it's correct.

Tap any table to open its fire timeline — a play-by-play of what was ordered and when. A leaderboard ranks servers by how well their tables track to standard.

Look back

Reports

The live board is for right now; reports are for patterns. Pull a date range to see how consistently your room hit each rung, which shifts run strong, and how servers trend over time.

Reporting and historical lookback of any past date and shift are included in every Coursed subscription.

More than one room

Multiple locations

If you run several venues, they roll up under a single billing group — one account, one login, each location billed as its own line item. You get a group address, yourgroup.getcoursed.com, with one password for the whole group.

Tell the Coursed team you're a group and we'll set the group up for you, add your locations, and hand you the login — you don't sign each venue up separately.
